The Process

alcohol ink and acrylic ink

The Magic

Creating with alcohol ink and resin is such a special  process to me, sends energy through my whole body. Creating potions and playing with crystals (mica), it all feels so "magical".  The process starts with isopropyl alcohol and alcohol inks. The inks themselves are highly pigmented and don't offer a ton of movement. The isopropyl alcohol is added to the inks to enable free movement and dilute the pigments in the ink. There are many methods used to move the ink around, all of which use air. As I wander down my creative path I have been most drawn to using my breath, but I have played with straws, airbrush, hair dryers, and so on.

Acrylic Ink

I have really enjoyed playing around with acrylic inks as well. Adding them into some of my alcohol ink art pieces as well as playing with them all by themselves. One thing that I've learned to be true about my creative self is that "fluid" art is what my heART is drawn to.

Cleaning ART?

Before I was introduced to alcohol inks I would've been confused if you told me you cleaned your art pieces you didn't love to start over. Alcohol ink must be used on a "nonporous" surface. This allows for many possibilities for using inks and makes it possible, and quite easy, to clean completely and start over. I have found this process to be so incredibly therapeutic. Not only is it liberating to pour alcohol all over a piece that you aren't feeling, but watching the inks melt away is incredibly healing.

Varnish

Varnish is something I had yet to explore and learn about until after I started using alcohol inks. Each piece needs to be sealed with many layers of protective varnish before being sent out into the world. I am still learning and experimenting with all the different finishes and products out there. It has been a very challenging and interesting process and there is so much more to learn. I am in the stage of exploration with my art, finding my way, my style, through showing up every day with an open mind and an open heART.

I consider all my art to be "experimental"
